10-yard dumpsters are available in two styles; end loading and walk-in access

- Walk-In Access (Front Opening)
End loading dumpsters are tilted on the back end and opened for dumping. Once you’ve dumped your waste, it’s closed again and the bottom is returned to level.
Walk-in access dumpsters have a large opening on one end of the dumpster for easy access to load and unload material. A walk-in dumpster is ideal when you have heavy items to dispose of because there’s no tilting or lifting required. It also gives you extra room if you need to throw away oversized items like mattresses, sofa sets, or old appliances.

A 10-yard dumpster (equivalent to 3 pickup truck loads) will hold:
- Approximately 10 pickup truck loads of household solid waste
- 6-8 pickup trucks of concrete/curb & gutter debris
- 4 – 5 tons of bricks, concrete, or dirt
- Approximately 3.5 tons of roofing material (asphalt shingles)
- 2.5 tons of yard trimming and brush

10-yard dumpster for residential projects:
Use an end-loading 10-yard dumpster if you have a small project and only need to dispose of 4 to 6 cubic yards of waste. This type of dumpster has a lid on top, so you can open the entire container at once instead of lifting heavy items out one by one. It also provides easy access in case your project involves lots of bulky material like cabinetry or appliances that are too large or awkward for lugging through a walk-in style bin.
A 10-yard walk-in access dumpster is ideal when you have heavy items to dispose of because there’s no tilting or lifting required, it’s designed with plenty of space for oversized items like mattresses, sofa sets, or old appliances and it provides plenty of room for projects that involve a large amount of material. However, these containers are the most expensive style and they’re also the biggest size that will fit in most driveways.

You can calculate your approximate volume so you’ll know which is right for you by dividing the number of cubic yards by 2.3 to get your volume in tons. For example, 6-cubic yards divided by 2.3 = 3.7 tons or about 4 loads (four pickup trucks.)
You can fill a 10-yard dumpster with up to 1,500 pounds of material
A standard 10-yard dumpster can handle 1,500 pounds of waste without being overfilled. If your project requires more than a ton of waste, you’ll likely need multiple dumpsters to complete it (unless you’re using one of the larger-sized containers) or you may have too much trash for a smaller receptacle. However, we encourage large projects to use as many dumpsters as they need because this type of load is easier for everyone involved. A single container has less room for error and there’s no loading material into another truck either if you don’t have an empty one available.
